The Myers Briggs Type Indicator®

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® is a personality profiling tool which enables us to understand the different preferences people have for making decisions, taking in information, interacting with people and their preferred style of working.

It is the most widely used personality tool of its type in the world. It is based on the work of Jung and was developed by a mother and daughter team(Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers) in the United States. It is widely researched and is updated on a regular basis.

The versions used in the UK are based on European research.

Benefits include

  • Increased confidence and acceptance of self in individuals
  • improved communication between individuals and teams
  • Greater understanding of others
  • Enhanced decision making processes

Why use it in organisations?

The MBTI® helps individuals to understand their strengths and unique gifts. It also helps them to understand how these are different to the people around them. This has powerful applications to

  • Enable individuals to identify reactions to stress and manage this effectively
  • Understanding how a team is performing
  • Identifying potential strengths and weaknesses in leadership roles
  • Understanding conflict
  • Enhance the coaching process
  • Improving influencing strategies
  • Being aware of individual reactions to change

The MBTI is administered by registered practitioners who provide individual feedback to participants.
